Joachim graduated in biology at the University of Konstanz where he also obtained his PhD working on bacterial sugar uptake and uptake regulation. Before starting Expose in 2009, Joachim established and operated the Mail-in-Crystallography service at the Macromolecular Crystallography group at the Swiss Light Source. In this role he was responsible for the development of a service dedicated to the collection and processing of high quality diffraction data for pharmaceutical companies. In addition he extensively researched data collection methods for SAD-phasing and established the first data collection strategies employing the Pilatus detector.
Dr. Michael Engel
Senior Scientist

Michael joined Expose in February 2012. He has graduated in chemistry from University of Munich before studying for a PhD in structural biology at Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, Martinsried. During his post-doctoral studies at Free University of Berlin he developed his expertise working on DNA-binding proteins, membrane intrinsic receptors and medically active proteases. From October 2008 on he established a mail-in protein crystallography (PX) service for industrial users at the Diamond Light Source while assisting in commissioning, optimization and automation of Diamonds PX beamlines, giving user support for industrial users, and doing the marketing of the service.
Dr. Mario Mörtl
Senior Scientist

Mario joined Expose in Feb 2014. He graduated in biology at the University of Konstanz and went to Prof. Sonderegger’s Lab at the University of Zuerich for his diploma thesis. After his PhD thesis in the Lab of Prof. Welte in Konstanz on neuronal cell adhesion molecules and B. subtilis glycine oxidase, in 2007 Mario started as an Associate Director at Proteros Biostructures, Martinsried. There he was responsible for the crystallisation of protein ligand complexes, data collection, model building and final quality control. He worked on more than 50 pharmacologically relevant targets: many kinases, proteases, epigenetic targets and others and presented and discussed the experimental and scientific results with the customers.
Dr. Günter Fritz
Senior Scientist, part time

Günter studied biology at the University of Konstanz where he also obtained his PhD. After working as a postdoctoral scientist at the University of Zürich he became a group leader in structural biology – first at the University of Konstanz, then at the Universitätsklinikum Freiburg. He led numerous successful structural biology projects and is the author of over 70 publications. Günter works with Expose since November 2015.
